This month, both my dog and my cat ended up needing veterinary care. Thankfully, they're getting the care they need, but the experience reminded me of something...
We're constantly talking about self-care for ourselves.
We take baths.
We meditate.
We use crystals.
We journal.
We cleanse our energy.
But when was the last time we asked...
What does my pet need?
Our animals love us unconditionally. They absorb the energy in our homes. They comfort us when we're sad, celebrate with us when we're happy, and somehow always know when we need a little extra love.
Just like us, they deserve nurturing beyond food, water, and belly rubs.
Since this experience, I've started becoming much more intentional about my pets' energetic well-being.
Crystal Elixir Water for Pets
One of my favorite gentle practices is making a crystal elixir.
Important: Never place crystals directly into your pet's drinking water. Many crystals can be toxic or contain minerals that shouldn't be ingested.
Instead, use the indirect method.
You'll Need:
A clean glass jar of filtered water
A small sealed glass container
A pet-safe crystal placed inside the sealed container
Good choices include:
Clear Quartz (healing & vitality)
Rose Quartz (comfort & emotional healing)
Amethyst (peace & calming)
Allow the crystal to energetically infuse the water for several hours or overnight.
You can then offer small amounts of this energetically charged water or add a splash to your pet's regular water bowl.
As you prepare it, hold the intention:
"May this water be filled with peace, vitality, comfort, and perfect health for my beloved companion."
I even like to pray Psalm 23 over it.
A Crystal Healing Grid for Animals
I also love creating a healing grid dedicated to my pets.
Place a photo of your animal in the center.
Around it, arrange crystals such as:
Clear Quartz – overall healing
Rose Quartz – unconditional love
Amethyst – peace and stress relief
Smoky Quartz – grounding
Black Tourmaline – energetic protection
Sit quietly for a few minutes.
Visualize your pet surrounded by golden light.
Imagine every cell of their body glowing with health and vitality.
You can say:
"May you be healthy.
May you be peaceful.
May you be protected.
May your body remember perfect wellness.
May you know how deeply you are loved."
Leave the grid up for several days, refreshing your intention whenever you walk by.
Calling Upon Saint Francis
Lately I've also found myself praying with Saint Francis of Assisi, the beloved patron saint of animals.
Whether you see him as a saint, a spiritual ally, or simply a symbol of compassion for all living creatures, his loving presence has inspired animal lovers for centuries.
Today my prayer is simple:
"Saint Francis, protector and friend of all creatures, please watch over my beloved animals. Help guide their healing. Help me understand what they need. If there is something they are trying to communicate, help me hear it with an open heart. Surround them with divine love, comfort, protection, and peace. Amen."
After praying, I spend a few quiet moments simply being with my pets.
Sometimes they communicate through behavior.
Sometimes through intuition.
Sometimes it's simply the feeling that they need more rest... more play... different food... more affection... or just to be near us.
The more we listen, the more we realize they're always communicating.

These practices are meant to support your pet's emotional and spiritual well-being alongside regular veterinary care, not to replace it.
