Today i want to talk about self care and how to create a self care routune
I think the most important thing is to create a scared space. One thing that I love about my self care routine is I have a space all to myself, and it makes me feel so good. I feel relaxed and ready to take on the day.
So i encourage you to find a space in your home that is all yours and makes you feel relaxed. That can even be your spot on the couch. Right next to your spot you can have a basket full of you Self care items. Throw a comfy pillow and blanket in the corner.
My self care space is a corner in my living room. I have a string of star lights, candles, crystals, I keep my ancestor altar, on top of my book shelf (which is full of spirtual books). I have incense and chakra tapestry. and my work desk.
When i sit in my space, i always feel spiritually connected. This is where I pray to my ancestors, I fill out my gratitude journal, I create art and plan my day and do my work.
So find a space that is just for you, it doesnt have to my elaborate. It just needs to make you feel connected.
One thing i started doing is to make my home QUOTE self care friendly END QUOTE.
We have these huge lights on the ceiling that are always on so recently I decided to find low stim lighting. I strug up some lights in the living room. I put out some candles in the bedroom. I use to have a diffuser that was also like a nightlight but that broke. I need to get another one because that woud be nice in the living room. I also want to get a couple salt lamps.I have a diffuser that I put on and I put different blends in there depending on the day. Lately ive been diffusing On Guard because a cold seems to be going around the house.
I keep my journal and pen on my desk as a reminder to sit down a journal morning and night. It’s always ready to go.
Having self care reminders make it easy to incorporate your self care throughout the day. if they are put away and out of sight they’ll also be out of mind.
For awhile i wanted my desk complelety cleaned off. nothing on it, so i started putting my journal in my bookshelf. and im not lying. the phrase out of sight out of mind is 100% true.
In the morning I like to pray so I keep my Prayer beads out as a reminder to get that done as well. if i dont do it in the morning, sometimes i’ll wear the beads to remind myself to get my prayers done whenever I get the chance. Lately ive been doing my Self Care Routine at night instead of the morning. It’s easier for me, im a night owl and when everyone goes to bed at 8/9/10 I can stay up for another hour or 2 to get my stuff done. makes more sence for me since my babies wake up at 6 and i am NOT waking up at 4AM.
Keep this in mind when planning your routine: while many focus on a morning routine, self-care doesn't have to be in the morning. I encourage you to find just five minutes to do something for yourself. Establishing a nightly routine has made me much less stressed. In the mornings, I was overwhelmed, waking up with the babies and spending all morning trying to get them settled so I could have some self-care time, which never went as planned. I was constantly worried about getting my own things done. Now, I know that once they're asleep, I can take time for my self-care, which has definitely made me feel less overwhelmed.
I do find it important to find 5 minutes to yourself in the morning. Call me selfish, IDC. It sets up your day. Take your kids outside and sit on the porch and take that 5 minutes to journal. or just sit there with your cup of coffee. I like to take my kids in the playroom and i’ll sit an drink my coffee. OR we’ll hang in the living room, i’ll put on music for my toddler and if im luckly he and the baby will play while I sit in my space and journal and do my prayers. Sometimes my toddler will even join me in prayer and thats okay too. spend that 5 minutes washing your face, brushing your teeth and getting dressed for the day. Doing all that just completely changes my vibe for the day.
Do a 5 minute mediation while your breastfeeding or take time to do some breathing exercises. I have a ton of mini mediations in my app, I encourage you to get on the waitlist so you can be the first to join for my beta tester launch!
So what can you keep in that self care basket of yours?I started off with a bakset in a chair. I kept my journal, a pencil case of colorful pens. If your into cards keep a deck of oracle or tarot. If you like to read keep a book that your currently reading to remind you to get some pages done today. I really like books those year long books, you know? everyday you read an inspiration quote or a challenge to do. The llewlyns spell a day are fun, I dont usually do the spells but i like to read the correspondences of the day, the moon and planet alignments for the day. Llewlyn comes out with a new book every year.
